![]() But this game, this game is on the “mobile game rip-off” level of rip-offs, and that’s not an easy feat to achieve. ![]() And this is coming from a guy who couldn’t give 2 shits about the game being a cuphead clone, I’ve played plenty of games that are considered “rip-offs” of other games and a lot of them I enjoyed a ton. An indie game by the name of Enchanted Portals is on its way to a potential release on Nintendo Switch and PC. To anyone reading this I recommend you don’t play this game until there is at least something done about the quality this game lacks. From being a rip-off, to having false advertising, to having every single aspect about the game be unbelievably terrible, the fact that the game costs as much as the game it ripped off despite being at most 1/50th of quality to the original, to most of the cutscenes just literally being an image that flashes the screen for a few seconds, to the game using STOCK SOUND EFFECTS. Normally I’d be very lenient to games from solo/duo developers, but this game is wrong on so many levels that there’s no excuse I can possibly make to defend it. It’s almost like this game had a de-development, the release trailer looks like a rip-off of a game that’s already a rip-off of a more popular game. And lo and behold, the trailers look like a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT GAME compared to even the release trailer. I was left speechless, I remembered the game looking like an actually quality product in the old trailers so I went to check them out. And mind you this was me just watching someone play it, I couldn’t begin to imagine my thoughts if I actually played it. Let’s talk about the elephant in the room Enchanted Portals is very clearly a homage to the very same 1930s rubber hose cartoons that Cuphead also draws from. I thought it just needed time and that it would pick up from there but NOPE! I had to close the video 25 minutes in cause I physically couldn’t bare to watch any longer. ![]() The first 10 minutes were INCREDIBLY boring and clunky. 8 Reception Upon release, Enchanted Portals received a number of negative reviews, with review aggregator Metacritic summarizing the critical reception of the PlayStation 5 version as 'generally unfavorable'. The animation in the trailer seemed quite a bit worse than the animation from the kickstarter trailer, but I chalked that up to my foggy memory and gave it benefit of the doubt. Viewers negatively compared the game to its inspiration, Cuphead. Today, after hearing the news about the game’s release, I immediately looked up the official release trailer.
